Evolution: the only crash game with a human host

Evolution runs the live casino industry. Cash or Crash is its single crash title, and at 99.59% RTP it pays better than anything else we cover. The catch is finding it.

Evolution is the company that made live dealer casino a thing. Founded in Stockholm in 2006, listed on Nasdaq Stockholm, licensed in essentially every regulated market and the supplier of live roulette, blackjack and game shows to most of the licensed operators on earth. In 2021 it released Cash or Crash, a game-show take on the crash format with a presenter, a studio, a blimp and a ball-drawing machine. It remains the only live crash game with real distribution, and it has the highest RTP of anything on this site.

Licences

Evolution holds licences or certifications from the UK Gambling Commission, the Malta Gaming Authority, the Swedish Gambling Authority, Ontario's AGCO, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan in the US, and most regulated European and Latin American jurisdictions. Its studios are in Riga, Tbilisi, Malta, Vancouver, Atlantic City and elsewhere. For a crash game this is a different tier from everything else here: Cash or Crash is a licensed product in markets where Aviator is not even available.

The flip side is that Evolution supplies only licensed operators. The offshore brands that serve South Asia do not have an Evolution contract, which is why Cash or Crash is the one crash game most of our readers have never seen.

The games

Cash or Crash is the only Evolution game we cover. A live host stands next to a 20-rung ladder with a blimp at the bottom. A machine draws balls one at a time from a mix of green, red and gold. Green: the blimp climbs a rung and the multiplier rises. Red: the blimp crashes and any money still in play is lost. Gold: you gain a shield that absorbs one red ball. After every green you choose: take all, take half and keep the rest climbing, or continue with everything. Reach the top rung and you collect the maximum, 50,000x.

RTP is 99.59% with optimal play, meaning the house edge is under half a percent. Min bet is typically 0.10 and max bets are high, because Evolution's operators are licensed and solvent. There is no auto-bet and no auto cash-out; it is a live table and you make each decision yourself.

Evolution also owns NetEnt, Red Tiger, Big Time Gaming and Nolimit City, none of which has a crash game worth mentioning.

What sets Evolution apart

The presenter and the return. The live format turns a ten-second maths exercise into a two-minute show with a human reading the balls, and for a lot of players that is the difference between a game and a spreadsheet. The RTP is the other thing. Evolution sells to licensed operators who compete on return, so it can ship a game with a 0.41% edge and still get paid.

Against it: pace. A Cash or Crash round takes minutes, not seconds, which kills the rapid-fire session that Aviator players are used to. The partial cash-out helps the decision-making but there is no auto cash-out, so you cannot leave the game to run. And you have to be somewhere licensed to play it at all.

Where you find Cash or Crash

UKGC operators (bet365, William Hill, 888, Betfair), MGA casinos across Europe, Ontario, South African licensees such as Betway and Hollywoodbets, and regulated Latin American sites. In Kenya, Betway carries Evolution tables and sometimes Cash or Crash. Our Cash or Crash page has the rules in full and the current operator list, and the countries hub notes which markets have licensed Evolution operators.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RTP of Cash or Crash?

99.59% with optimal play, published by Evolution. That is the highest return of any crash game on this site, ahead of Limbo and Mission Uncrossable at 99%. Optimal play means cashing out at the points the maths favours; a player who always rides to the end gets a lower effective return.

How does Cash or Crash work?

A blimp climbs a 20-rung ladder. Balls are drawn from a machine: green moves you up a rung and raises the multiplier, red crashes the blimp and ends the round, gold gives you a shield against one red. After each green ball you can take all your money, take half and keep the rest in play, or continue. Max payout is 50,000x.

Where can I play Cash or Crash?

At licensed operators that have an Evolution contract: UKGC casinos such as bet365, William Hill and 888, MGA casinos across Europe, Ontario sites and licensed operators in South Africa and Latin America. It is rarely at the offshore brands serving India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, because Evolution does not supply them.
